India vs Pakistan: Injured Shikhar Dhawan helps teammates out with drinks

first_imgShikhar Dhawan may have been ruled out of the next few matches of the 2019 Cricket World Cup with a thumb injury but he was up and about helping his India teammates during their match against Pakistan at Old Trafford on Sunday.Dhawan had copped a blow on his thumb during a match-winning 117 against Australia at The Oval on June 9. He has been sidelined for at least 10 to 12 days when the Indian team management will monitor him again. Rishabh Pant has been called in as standby for Dhawan who was seen training at the gym before the India-Pakistan match.Shikhar Dhawan’s injury is a blow to India – he has 6 hundreds in ICC tournaments. However, KL Rahul who walked out to open with Rohit Sharma on Sunday, hit his maiden World Cup fifty as the duo added a record 136 for the opening wicket.After India’s third match of the World Cup against New Zealand was washed out, Virat Kohli said the team hoped Dhawan would recover quickly from his injury: “Hopefully, the injury heals quickly and he (Dhawan) will be available for the latter half of our league games and semi-finals for sure. From that point of view, we want to hold him back, keep him here.”Shikhar Dhawan has been one of the most prolific run-scorers in the shorter formats for India. It was here in England 6 years ago that Dhawan first walked out to open the innings with Rohit Sharma in the Champions Trophy.
