SNK release Neo Geo CD controller for PS3

first_imgAs a kid, the Neo Geo consoles were a wish list item for me. With the machine and the games costing hundreds of dollars each they were never going to be within reach, but I still coveted them. Jump forward to 2010 and while the hardware may be dead, the games are available for just a few dollars each.Earlier this month SNK Playmore announced Neo Geo Station for the PlayStation Network. On December 21 it will offer up 10 classic Neo Geo games to download and play on your PS3, including:Fatal FuryAlpha Mission IIThe King of Fighters ’94Samurai ShodownBaseball Stars ProfessionalMagician LordMetal SlugLeague BowlingSuper SidekicksArt of FightingWe didn’t think that news could get any better, but it can.As well as releasing the games, SNK has decided to update the game controller which originally shipped with the Neo Geo CD. It’s no fighting stick, but makes for a great controller for playing these retro titles. It has been updated to include a PS button, and now connects via USB, making it usable for more than just these games. The bad news is this is a Japan-only release. The good news is Play-Asia has it available for everyone else if you’re willing to pay the $44.90 price tag. We think it may be worth it just to play these SNK games with an SNK pad. Here’s Play-Asia’s description of why you want to own it:Licensed by Sony Entertainment System, the SNK NEO GEO Controllers are manufactured for the fighters. It works especially well on games such as King of Fighters XII and all sorts adrenaline pumping action. As a special feature, you can change POVs by moving it along the X and Y axis with a lever.Unleashing skills become easier with the special button layout and the digital controller reacts so much faster to your commands, making your fight far smoother than usual. A PlayStation Network Card with enough cash to buy all the Neo Geo Station games, wrapped up with this controller, would make some of the older gamers among us very happy this Christmas. But then again, so would the actual Neo Geo CD hardware and some original games.Read more at Albotaslast_img
