ANOTHER COLLAPSE Flybmi goes bust blaming Brexit uncertainty

first_imgBlog February 19, 20190 Comments Flybmi has gone bust, cancelling all flights with immediate effect and blaming Brexit as the main cause of its collapse. On the weekend, UK operator BMI Regional became the latest European airline to go bust. The company is blaming Brexit uncertainty for its closure. The British carrier, which flew 17 regional jet aircraft on routes to 25 European cities, announced that it had ceased operations with immediate effect. This has left hundreds of passengers stranded across the continent.“Current trading and future prospects have also been seriously affected by the uncertainty created by the Brexit process, which has led to our inability to secure valuable flying contracts in Europe and a lack of confidence around bmi’s ability to continue flying between destinations in Europe,” the airline said on its website late Saturday. The news is a huge blow to City of Derry Airport in Northern Ireland.Flybmi’s collapse means the airport has lost its only connection to London Stansted.Last year, council officials had warned that the airport would not be sustainable without the subsidised route.center_img ANOTHER COLLAPSE: Flybmi goes bust, blaming Brexit uncertaintylast_img read more
